Formal Promm Updos
From: www.fancy-prom-dresses.info

" By Annie & Keenan In the years 2001-2002, the students of Oregon School for the Blind were getting excited about having a prom. Lots of students attended several prom meetings and helped plan for it. Unfortunately, Keenan wasn't able to attend the meetings, but I was able to. I'm Annie, Keenan's girlfriend. In the OSB prom meetings, we set up prom committees. The letter committee started first, and I was on it. Letters were sent out to many organizations. Fortunately, we received many donations and have extra money for next year. I was on the photography committee, too. I remember the photographer that took my senior pictures, and I worked on involving him but the committee chose a different photographer. I was also on the decoration committee. We first thought about what the prom theme should be. Someone got the topic idea of dancing the night away. It was a good idea; consequently, it was voted the prom theme. We called it, "Dancing the Night Away." We planned a background for the portrait picture scene. It was a night scene of a city with the moon and stars in the background and a bridge going in front of the person the picture is being taken of. The background had to be made. We ended up using blooming trees because they were less time consuming, and we agreed that the idea was better. It was coming close to the time of the prom. Instead of finding out how to make the bridge out of wood, we borrowed the trees from an employee of our school. The bridge would have blocked the view of the people getting pictures taken; but with the trees, there would still be 3-D depth. I invited the employee to the prom since she helped a lot with the decorations and the background. The decoration committee got together and planned out what decorations to use. We met at the store one night just to price the decorations. Later on we met in the dorm and added up the prices from what we wanted to use, and we decided on the colors of the tablecloths. When we figured out how much and what to buy, we went to the store and bought it. The day of the prom we went to the spinning room and I put the blue and black alternating tablecloths on the 20 tables with the help of Krysta. I had to make sure that the star stickers on the blue tablecloths were showing up. The black tablecloths didn't have star stickers on them yet. Saleem put decorations on the walls. I couldn't wait for later on that night when I would be dining and dancing with Keenan. I was about to wear my dark blue prom dress that Gracie, a staff member, found for me. It was at a really good price, and it looked great on me! It was going to be my first date, and I was glad it was going to be with Keenan by ourselves. We were going to India Palace for dinner by way of the bus and walking, and then we were going to go to the prom after dinner in a taxi. Keenan was going to pay for our dinner, and I was going to pay for the taxi. Tine, another staff member, walked with me to Salem Hospital where the ATM machine was located so I could get money out with my debit card to pay for the taxi. On the way to dinner on our first date, we went on bus number 21 where a nice girl greeted us. She liked my dress and figured out that we were going to the prom. She sounded excited for us. I was wearing my dark blue prom dress along with blue sparkling fingernail polish, make-up, and my furry coat. It was a little cold out for me to wear my dress without some sort of jacket or coat. We were talking on the bus about those times when people are seen in places we don't expect to see them; it's a small world. I was excited. I had been waiting a long time for that night when I could be with Keenan for my very first date and first prom! Keenan and I got off at the bus mall and were starting to walk to the bus driveway to cross it when the girl said she was going to walk with us. I was a little suspicious, for I was wondering why she wanted to walk with us. I found out why when we were walking from High to Liberty. She left us in the middle of the block and went into a building. Keenan and I were waiting to cross Liberty when she quickly came back and told Keenan that something was for him to give me. She handed him something - pink flowers! She gave them to him so that he could give them to me to make the night more special. She said something good about the Lord in a sentence, and then Keenan and I crossed the street. She was like an angel. They show up in your life and do something really nice, and they're never usually seen again. She was one of those people. Keenan and I had a dinner that I will never forget! I wanted to order the meal where we try everything. Before I said anything, the waiter offered that meal first! On our plate there was a cone-type thing that Keenan and I both shared. It was good! After eating, Keenan and I were standing outside, and it was dark. I called the taxi with my cell phone. The taxi was there in minutes. Keenan and I got in, and the driver was cool. When we said that Keenan and I were going to Mission Mill, the driver thought we were going to the Rob Zombie concert that night. I would have loved to have gone there but we were going to the prom, and I was excited. The price for the taxi was way less than I thought it was going to be. Keenan and I arrived at the prom and I went with a group to dance the Chicken Dance. After that, Keenan and I went to the photographer who had no one to take pictures of since no one was waiting to get pictures. The photographer ended up taking several pictures: one of both Keenan and I, one of just Keenan, one of just me, one of our friend, etc. Then, we danced and tried the food the caterer brought. I had vanilla pudding. Around the end of the prom, Keenan and I were slow-dancing to the song "Hero." When the song was almost over, Keenan and I kissed. It was definitely a night to remember! Success Stories Jodi and Dan Bittick purchased One Hour Martinizing in Medford in 1998. The operation does dry cleaning, repairs, alterations, preservation and laundry. Both Jodi and Dan worked for big business in Utah and wanted to own their own business. Dry-cleaning was a natural choice since Jodi's grandfather and her father owned and operated a dry cleaning business. Jodi and her siblings often helped with the family business. In the four years as owners of the Medford store, the Bitticks had increased their market and wanted to expand by purchasing a new, larger capacity washer and dryer. The owners couldn't get a bank loan, because the loan request was too small. Roger Harding of the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) in Grants Pass, and their instructor in the Rogue Community College Small Business Management Program, referred them to Dennis Davis, the Loan Fund Manager at Southern Oregon Womens Access to Credit (SOWAC) Business Training and Lending in Medford, Oregon. "Dennis Davis was very helpful... we really enjoyed working with him," said the Bitticks. Davis assisted them to update their Business Plan and worked with them to get approval for the loan. After they were funded for the equipment, Davis encouraged them to take part in the SOWAC Marketing Roundtable program with Kimberly Ward. For six months, they met with other entrepreneurs, exchanged ideas and worked out a Marketing Plan with one-on-one instruction. The key to the new plan was to increase their customer base and maximize their new larger capacity washer and dryer. They chose to offer coupons to existing customers for a discount on dry cleaning larger items. The business is thriving. When they first opened in 1998, only Dan and Jodi worked full time. Now in 2003 they employ three full time people, plus themselves, a total of five full time and two part time. Yearly gross sales have more than tripled. When asked about obstacles they had overcome, Jodi laughed, "There are obstacles every day! Either equipment or management issues keep us busy." Their business strength, Jodi thought, was their exceptional customer service. They have recently made a unique addition to their business and contribution to the community with the "Prom Dress Bank." Jodi went to the school counselors and shared ideas about how to let students know about the stock of prom gowns that students could own by exchanging a can of food for the Food Bank. This stock of prom gowns, to be ready for distribution in March, is open to any student who is, for whatever reason, not able to afford a dress. Jodi felt that health issues, family issues, low income, etc. all qualified students to receive one of these dresses. Jodi initiated this project to give something back to the community that has helped their dry cleaning business thrive. "
